Julian Gau is the Resident Conductor of Celadon Stars World Orchestra. Growing up in New Jersey, he participated in Celadon Youth, a non-profit Asian heritage youth orchestra, and joined Chinese Music Ensemble of New York as an erhu player and cellist. He studied music and mathematics at Brown University and gaduated with a master’s degree in orchestral conducting at the Boston Conservatory.

Julian serves as the founder and music director of the Boston-based Horizon Ensemble, an orchestra whose performances pair historical compositions with new works by young composers. Julian is also the conductor of the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York since 2022. In the summer of 2023, Julian served as an assistant conductor at Opera Saratoga and as the New Music Conducting Fellow at the Composers Conference in New Hampshire.
